It’s been 50 years since Carroll Shelby founded Shelby American in February 1962!

To celebrate the 50 year anniversary of delivering high performance vehicles, Shelby American is hosting an anniversary tour and the release of three new, exclusive 50th Anniversary editions; the Shelby GTS, GT350 and Super Snake.

Each will be produced in 100 units, 50 available in black with gold stripes and 50 white with gold stripes. The exclusivity of these models makes them an instant collector’s piece.

For the momentous birthday, Shelby produced its most powerful creation; the Super Snake, available in 650, 750 or 800 horsepower configuration as a coupe or convertible.
The Super Snake was based on the Ford Shelby GT500, and enhanced not only with a high horse-power motor, but also more powerful breaks, improved handling and an updated style.

The GTS350 was based on the Mustang GT platform, and greatly resembles the Mustang, except for a few upgrades, more power.
“A Whipple supercharger and unique Borla exhaust boost output to 525 horsepower, and brake cooling ducts are used for both front and rear binders. Front brakes are the same six-piston Wilwood units found on the GTS, but rear brakes get upgraded to four piston Wilwood units,” explains Kurt Ernst of Motorauthority.com.

The GTS is available in a V-6 and V-8 version. Both have a black leather custom interior, with gold stitching. The Shelby logo is embroidered on the seat back as well as the custom floor mats.
A press release issued by Shelby noted, the “GTS post title package can be based on either the V6 or 5.0 Ford Mustang… featuring upgraded brakes, suspension, tune and appearance. Many options are available for the GTS, including superchargers to boost performance.”

The GTS starts at $19,995, for the V-6, $24,995 for the V-8, while the GTS350 and Super Snake start at $59,995.
John Luft, President of Shelby America, proudly states in the press release,
“From the 800 horsepower Shelby Super Snake to the agile GT350 and nimble GTS, each 50th anniversary Shelby is built to run,” noted Luft. “A 50-year anniversary only comes around once in life. These limited edition Shelbys’ will mark that milestone for a select few who have a chance to own a piece of history.”
